EDUCATION
Every child deserves a quality education. Let's give our children the tools they need to succeed in the 21st Century. As a former member of the Farmington
School Board, I know that the best way to improve education is by:
Reducing class sizes.
Increasing individual attention for students.
Introducing the three T's to education -- Teamwork, Training and Technology.
LOCAL CONTROL -- VAGNOZZI LEADS FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR CITIES
Too often, state government takes decision-making power away from local communities. That has to change. I believe we should:
Allow local communities to make decisions not Lansing bureaucrats.
Fight attempts to take away decision-making power from communities. Two years ago, I helped defeat a bill that allowed Lansing to take control over 21 areas of local government.
Restore the balance of power to government on issues that affect daily life.
"I can't let our well-run city be destroyed by legislation coming out
of Lansing that would cripple our ability to maintain our high quality of life."
As a 12-year member of the Farmington Hills City Council, Aldo Vagnozzi fought vigorously to protect local communities against state takeover attempts.
HEALTH CARE
"We must have a strong Patient's Bill of Rights that protects people and allows doctors, not insurance companies, to make medical decisions."
Aldo will work to restore mental health treatment centers for those who must have them and put an end to the present barbaric practice of closing hospitals and putting the former patients out on the street or in jail.
GOOD ROADS, TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENT
Aldo will fight for a greater share of State and Federal funds for local roads and oppose attempts to take over some of our local roads. |
"I am running for State Representative because I want to fight for what matters most to your family." Aldo Vagnozzi
NURSING HOMES AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
There are two things we can do immediately to help senior citizens:
Strengthen nursing home standards and increase the number of nursing home workers.
Fight for a comprehensive Prescription Drug Program for senior citizens. As your State Representative, this will be my number one priority.
ENVIRONMENT
I am proud to have the endorsement of the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action. Together we can:
Eliminate slant drilling in the Great Lakes.
Stop dangerous deep injection wells.
Slow down urban sprawl and protect our environment.
As the Mayor of Farmington Hills, I worked to keep oil well drilling out of our communities and keep Woodland Hills an undeveloped nature park.
Led the adoption of a strong cellular tower ordinance.
Fought developers to keep down the density in housing subdivisions.
CABLE AND UTILITY RATES
Aldo will continue his
fight against the shoddy service record of Detroit Edison, the
continuing rate hikes and poor service of local cable providers and his call for appointment of consumer representatives to both the Michigan Public Service Commission and the Federal Communications Commission which are supposed to regulate these services but are too often controlled by the industries.
PROPERTY TAX CUTS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
"Our seniors deserve security, safety, dignity and a sound quality of life whether they live in their own homes or in nursing homes. Investing in retirement security and prescription drug coverage must be a part of that. And our seniors must get a fair an prompt property tax rebate."
Aldo has led a petition drive asking the Legislature to improve the state property tax program for residents who qualify for the State Rebate Program which has not been revised in 25 years during which time property taxes went up about 300%. As your representative in Lansing, he will continue this fight. |
