Vagnozzi brings basketball trophies
to Lansing
Conversation with constituent paves way
Wednesday, July 21, 2004
FARMINGTON – State Representative Aldo
Vagnozzi was enjoying his grandson’s graduation party recently when he
struck up a conversation with constituent Ethan Goodman. Goodman, a University
of Michigan student and communications intern with Palace Sports and
Entertainment, had an idea: Wouldn’t it be cool if the Detroit Pistons and
Detroit Shock championship trophies could tour the state, allowing fans across
Michigan to bask in the glory of our homegrown heroes?
Now, thanks to Vagnozzi’s efforts -- with an assist from Goodman -- the NBA and WNBA trophies will indeed be on display Thursday, July 22 in the Capitol for all Michiganders to enjoy.
“This is something for all of us in Michigan to celebrate,” said Vagnozzi. “We should be proud of the superior athletic achievements of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Shock basketball teams. I’m so pleased to offer this opportunity to see the trophies in person.”
The public is invited to come on down to the Capitol Rotunda and see the trophies from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. This event is free and photo opportunities are first come, first served. In case you miss the trophies during the day, they will also be attending the Lansing Lugnuts game at Oldsmobile Stadium later that evening. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
Plans are underway to bring both the
teams and the trophies to the Capitol this fall.
